Miriam Watson, CIMT has been practicing yoga for many years now and has found that its peaceful benefits have gotten her through many of life's struggles, including her fertility journey and her recent battle with breast cancer. It also was a bonding opportunity for her during both of her pregnancies and the focused breathing techniques made childbirth a beautifully memorable experience.

Once her first child was born in 2003, Miriam began to appreciate the
natural yogic abilities of babies "from that first belly breath at birth, they
instinctively know what we as adults struggle with - how to calm and
self-soothe. So much of yoga revolves around children's natural
development - child pose, down dog, bridge pose. I started to learn that
what I was striving to achieve as an adult was to become more and more
child-like."
Initially Miriam was interested in learning how to have her daughter
maintain flexibility. She purchased Baron Baptiste's My Daddy is a Pretzel
and found that her daughter loved to learn the poses with her and would
do them instinctively at stressful times "like when Anabelle made an
emergency room visit. The doctor came in to see her and found her
calming herself in pretzel pose."
With the addition of her son Gregory in 2005, Miriam began to notice the
difference between the flexibility of boys and girls and thought she should
take a class or two to understand how to properly stretch her children, so
she didn't injure them. When she explored options in the capital region,
she found nothing available locally, but Helen Garabedian, who created
the Itsy Bitsy Program (r) offered facilitator training. "I enrolled in the
training with the goal of being the best yoga teacher for my children, but
then I started thinking that other moms probably wanted the same help I
was looking for and that I could offer classes with the hopes of creating
and encouraging our next generation to be more peaceful."
In 2007 Miriam started offering classes at a studio in Derry, NH and then
moved to Nini Bambini, a family wellness center, located in Bedford, NH.
She has acquired nearly 300 hours of yoga training, specifically for children,
including her 200-hour Color Me Yoga Register Yoga Teacher Training
which will be completed in December 2008. In addition to the Itsy Bitsy
Yoga program, Miriam has completed training with Shakta Kaur Khalsa's
Radiant Child Program. Shakta was one of this country's first children's
yoga instructors.
Additionally, Miriam recently has been trained and certified in Infant
Massage through Tina Allen's Liddle Kidz Foundation. "I feel that yoga
and massage work together so beneficially for everyone, but particularly for
babies. Prior to my training I incorporated a brief amount of massage in
some of my classes and now I look forward to really connecting these two
disciplines in a meaningful way that will really help caregivers provide the
best options for their families."
